12 January 2009: Happy New Year.

OK .... so another year has come and gone .... and its time to wish everyone a safe and happy new year. I hope that this message finds you all well and that your flight time has been fruitful throughout 2008.

The Amberley Airshow display held during September 2008 was an outstanding success with a huge amount of interest shown for the "Viper's Nest". Hopefully this should generate some major recruiting interest for the 62nd. I had a great time and it was great catching up with everyone.

Planning has also commenced for the 2009 Expo .... so stay tuned for update as the event gets closes .... its shaping up to be even better and bigger that the last one.

Anyway .... I will keep this note short and wish everyone good health, good luck .... and good hunting.

Cheers ....

30 June 2008: Squadron Update.

Hi all .... and welcome to another update from the world of Wildcats. Not much occurring so I will keep this bulletin brief. Flying continues over at Multivipers and with individual online TE missions. Some great missions have been flown with plenty of action seen.

AF continues to perform solidly on 1.0.13 with few if any errors seen.

Planning is also underway for participation with the 62nd Fighting Falcons in a display to be held at the up coming Amberley Airshow .... so stay tuned for an after action report.

Well I guess that about wraps things up for the moment, as stated, this was just a quick update .... I wish everyone and their families all the best and I hope to see you in the skies soon.

Cheers ....

18 May 2007: Squadron Update.

Well .... things have definitely been on the quiet side .... A new year (and its already almost half gone) .... So lets get the formalities over with from the start .... Merry Xmas, Happy New Year, and welcome to 2007! As far as LAN flying goes its been very quiet indeed. Internet flying on the other hand has been going strong. The main thing is that the SQN is still here .... all be it in a much reduced form .... but here none the less. So I guess an update on where things stand is in order.

Allied Force is still going strong and is currently on version 1.0.11 .... with a new patch scheduled for release in the near future. The number of people flying online continues to increase on almost a hourly basis. So if you feel like dragging out the flight sticks and dusting them off .... then just contact me via the usual means and we can get some missions going. One important note for all members is that the OZ Flight Simulation Expo is on again this year in October. The venue is Jupiters Casino Convention Centre on the Gold Coast. This should be an awesome event so head on over to the expo website for details.

On the subject of MP .... with the upcoming "WinterLAN 2007" .... it might be a good time to try some flying again as a diversion to the usual selections. Who knows we may even gain some new members. So stay tuned to the forums for details I guess. In the meantime .... if any members are looking for a flight .... head over to Multivipers and jump onto Teamspeak for a flight. If you need any help or info regarding getting connected .... just drop me an email.

Finally, a reminder that the SQN has its very own image storage area that is available to all members. For details please contact me via PM or email. Well I guess that about wraps things up for the moment .... I wish everyone and their families all the best and I hope to see you in the skies soon.

Cheers ....

17 July 2006: Squadron Update.

Now that v1.0.7 has been out for a little over a month, I just thought I would throw up a quick news item to update everyone on how the latest patch is performing. The short answer is .... OUTSTANDINGLY!!!! In my humble opinion, Falcon MP has never been better. So if you haven't already tried it out .... jump online and give it a go. You will definitely notice the difference.

Anyway, just thought I would throw this up to keep everyone informed on how things are going in the Falcon world.

Cheers ....

09 May 2006: Squadron Update.

Well seeing as its been a while since the last news bulletin, I thought I should throw something up on the news page, so ....

Things have been quiet on the squadron activity front, but we are still rolling along. The latest news is that patch 1.0.6 has been released and it offers a wealth of updates and fixes. The list is a large one .... so head on over to the Lead Pursuit website for details of this latest upgrade. For those who haven't already done so .... make sure you grab a copy of the patch and get your systems upgraded. Also, LP have advised that 1.0.7 is progressing well and while no release date has been confirmed, they have stated that they expect that barring any unforseen issues, 1.0.7 will be the last major patch to be released for Allied Force. This is because they are now switching their attention to the next commercial release in the Battlefield Operations series. Things are definitely looking good for the future of Flight Sims!

On the home front, the next LAN event is scheduled for the Queen's Birthday long weekend. So make sure you pencil in the dates on your Calenders to attend.

Anyway I guess that will do for now .... look forward to catching up online. One final thing .... a reminder that if any member has a news item that they wish posted here, just drop me a line with the details.

Cheers ....

29 January 2006: Falcon AF 1.0.5 Released.

Just a short note ....

I know that the latest patch for Falcon AF has been out for a while now .... but I thought I had better throw up a post anyway to let everyone know that the SQN has updated to version 1.0.5. All reports are that it is working well so if you haven't done so already, grab the patch and update your install. If you need any guidance or have any questions regarding this update .... just ask :).

Check out the Lead Pursuit website for details.

OK .... guess that about does it. Like I said, just a quick update post to keep everyone informed.

10 January 2006: Happy New Year!

Well, another year has come and gone. Hope that everyone's new year wishes come true for you and yours.

It's been a while since the last news update so I thought I had better post something up to let everyone know that we are still around :). OK so on with the news:

First off I guess is that I am now comfortably lodged in Sydney, complete with my new ADSL2+ connection, and that Rincewind (our beloved XO) has traded places with me with his new work position in Canberra. Hopefully he will have a new ADSL connection up and running in the near future .... good luck with that one Rince :).

Next item: The December LAN. This was a dual purpose event in that not only was it our final meet for 2005, but it was also the first meet in my new location and worked out rather well as a christening event. All went well, except for Rincewind's video card deciding to die due to a faulty GPU fan. As a result, no flying was done over the weekend. However, a great time was had by all who attended, with many hours of FPS and driving achieved. Thanks to all who made it ..... and look forward to the next meet.

Finally, Falcon AF is going along quite well and the next patch (1.0.5) is currently in test by LP and looking like it will be a great addition. Details can be found at their website.

Anyway, I guess that about raps things up for this update. Hope to see everyone online in the future. Also if anyone has any new items that they would like published, just drop me a line and we can get it posted in here. Until next time ....

Cheers ....

18 August 2005: New
Allied Force Pit Trainer released.

A new procedural cockpit functionality trainer has been released for Falcon 4.0: Allied Force. It is an excellent tool for either learning or brushing up on the complexities of operating the F-16 cockpit. I thoroughly recommend that all pilots install this trainer. The SQN Training page has been updated with a link to the trainer source page.

NOTE: In order to run Pit Trainer, you will need to have the Java v1.4.2 (or later) runtime installed. You can download this here. Look for the “J2SE Java Runtime Environment (JRE)” download on that page.

My sincere thanks to the developer of this outstanding training aid .... Dave Calkins (aka Coder1024).

Cheers ....

18 August 2005: New Squadron Standard Announced!

Well the testing of Falcon 4.0: Allied Force has been completed and after some discussions between those involved with the acceptance testing, it has been decided that the Squadron will in fact transition to this latest version. The "Falcon Installation Guide" and "Multi-Player Procedures" pages have therefore been updated accordingly to reflect the change of install.

Please take a moment to review them and if you find any errors, or feel that anything needs to be added, deleted or changed, get in touch with me and I will update the relevant pages accordingly.

I hope that this will herald a new and exciting era in the Squadron.

Cheers ....

04 July 2005: New Squadron Standard?

With the release of the latest iteration of the Falcon bloodline .... Falcon 4.0: Allied Force now a reality, and with a number of Sqn members purchasing this new version, the possibility of a new Sqn standard is looming on the horizon. The way that I envisage any transition is as follows:

1. Once those personnel who have ordered the new sim have received their copies, a "Test Group" will be setup to confirm that the new version meets and/or exceeds the current Sqn standards.

2. Testing will involve a number of areas (including but not limited to: ease of install, connectivity, stability and usability).

3. Should this new version perform well, then it will be put to a vote for all members to decide if we adopt it as our new standard.

Stay tuned both here and on the forums for further announcements.

Cheers ....

09 June 2005: New Forum and Image Storage Area.

All members please be aware that there is now a new forum area in operation. The link to the forums has been updated to reflect this change. Could all pilots (if you haven't already done so) please head over to the new forum and register.

Also, I have created a new link in the Nav area for our new SQN Image Storage Area. The reason for this was so that rather than filling up the sites storage allowance (i.e. My Storage allowance) .... I have created a SQN account with the online image storage site .... Photobucket. For details on accessing this new area if you have any images that you want to share .... please get in touch with me and I will pass them on to you.

Cheers ....

07 June 2005: Version change of BazT for the Wildcats standard installation.

With the release of the newest BazT terrain elevation software, the Wildcats standard installation has been updated to include this new version. Please head over to the Squadron Area and grab this new version.

NOTE: Before installing this new version of the Terrain Elevator, it is necessary to unapply and uninstall the previous version. All that is required is to navigate to the "Utilities\BazT" directory in your Wildcats install, run the program, confirm it is pointing to the correct install and then click on the Unapply button. When the program has completed removing the terrain elevations, simply close it and then using the uninstall application that should be in your Wildcats install root directory, remove the application. After this, delete the Bazt folder from inside the utilities folder and then follow the revised instructions on the Falcon Installation Guide page of the website.

The Falcon Installation Guide has also been updated with revised links and instructions to reflect the change to this new software.

As usual, if you have any questions please get in touch.

Cheers ....

04 May 2005: Welcome to our newest members.

Just a quick news item to welcome our newest members, Phil "Fatman" Nicholls and Johnathon "Sabre" Holmes. Phil is a fellow FreeBirds pilot and is based in Canberra. Johnathon comes to us via the civilian flight sim community and is one of Rincewind's associates from Sydney, although we won't hold that against him. Please make them both welcome to the squadron.

Welcome aboard Fatman and Sabre.

07 April 2005: Easter LAN meet and Update

Well another Easter has come and gone .... and it was once again time for the annual trek south to the CO's place for a LAN meet. There was a good attendance over the weekend and all pilots enjoyed the experience. We also welcomed a new player to the LAN (Fatman .... a fellow ACT pilot and gamer) as well as catching up with all the usual attendees. Thanks to all who attended and much gaming fun was had by all with a number of different games played into the early hours each day.

Also, just a short note to let all Squadron members know that I have setup a protected "Squadron-Area" folder for anything that needs to be stored for/distributed to Squadron members only. For access into this folder please get in touch with me and I will pass on the details.

OK .... well that does it for now .... see you all in the skies.

16 February 2005: Squadron Update

Well another year is gone .... and yes I am late in posting this update .... again .... so a belated Happy New Year to all and welcome to 2005. Much is happening in the Falcon world so '05 looks like it's going to be a bumper year. The Wildcats are still running SP4.2 with the MP5.1 exe, SP3 Missiles patch, HiTiles and the BazT Terrain elevator. This install has proven to be an extremely stable and exceptionally well performing install .... so until something better comes along it will remain as our standard.

No new Squadron movements on the personnel front. Online flying is continuing with a lot of excellent missions flown and plenty of kills gained by all concerned.

Well guess that about wraps this update for now. Hope to see you all online .... and happy flying.

Cheers

05 December 2004: Squadron Install amendment

With the latest release of the BazT Terrain Elevator there has been an amendment to the Sqn Standard Install procedures. Please head over to the install page and check it out. The main points are the inclusion of a weather file that is required to be installed before the terrain elevator in order for the terrain elevator to do it's job correctly. For those who have already install v1.0 of the terrain elevator .... please follow these important steps to ensure that your transition from v1.0 to v1.1 is successful.

1. Unapply v1.0 by opening the elevator program (located in the utilities folder of your SP42 install) and clicking on the "unapply" button. Close the program.

2. Run the uninstaller program located in the SP42 root directory to remove v1.0 from your install.

3. Now it's just a matter of following the instructions as per the new install procedures to install and apply the v1.1 elevator.

If you experience any difficulties or have any other problems, please contact one of the squadron members.

Cheers

22 November 2004: Squadron Install change

Well the major news is that after a careful review and testing procedure the Wildcats have moved on to a new install of Falcon. Effective as of this date, the new Sqn standard is now SP4.2 with the MP5.1 and SP3 Missile Fix patches. All personnel are required to ensure that they have this new version installed and correctly applied for all Sqn LAN and Online meets. So head on over to the install procedures page and get yourselves updated.

As usual, if you have any questions regarding the new install procedures please contact either myself or one of the other Sqn members.

LAN Meet Update

Ok .... well it's been a while since the last update and I have been neglecting my posting duties. So here we go .... there have been a few meets since the Queen's birthday meet (in fact so many that I can't remember them all) so I will cover them all with this post. All meets were held in Sydney at either Dragosani or Mr Q's place and all were both well attended and stunning successes. Thanks to both the Dragosani and Q households for staging their usual high standard meets as well as everyone who turned up.

The Australian Flight Simulation Expo was also run at Sydney Airport and was a great event with a lot of interest generated from those who attended. Well done to all who helped in the organisation of the event.

Once again thanks to all who attended and hope to see everyone at the next meet.

11 June 2004: Queen's Birthday LAN

Once again it was a long weekend and therefore it was time for another LAN meet. The venue this time was the Q residence (a BIG Thanks to Mr and Mrs Q). We had an excellent turnout of personnel and the weekend was an outstanding success.

There was a good attendance over the entire weekend and all pilots enjoyed the experience. We also welcomed a few of the newest members of the forums to the meet and caught up with all the usual attendees.

Once again thanks to all who attended and hope to see everyone at the next meet.

11 May 2004: Australian Flight Simulation Expo

Well the big news is that the first annual Australian Flight Simulation Expo has been launched. This event is planned to become the largest Flight Simulation Expo in the Southern Hemisphere. It is going to be an outstanding event with not only the expo planned .... but also a 100 seat Flight Sim LAN and a Virtual "Top Gun" competition. The organisers are really doing an outstanding job and have already secured some excellent sponsors. The website for the expo has also been launched and contains all the details on the event.

There is also a forums area for registering and discussing the events planned for the expo .... so head on over and sign up .... you won't regret it!

The website is located at:

OZ Flight Sim Expo

Hope to see everyone there .... and cheers for now.

07 May 2004: ANZAC Day LAN

Once again .... another successful LAN meet at the Dragosani family LAN studio. The usual suspects were present .... plus a couple of extras. Recker and Solo "flew" in for some Falcon missions with the group and after some teething problems for Recker some excellent mission were flown. There were also some great missions conducted in a few other FPS Sims as well. There was also the usual catching up on the goings on amongst the group and a good time was had by all.

Once again .... thanks to all who attended .... and I look forward to flying with you all soon.

14 March 2004: Squadron Update

Well it has been a while since the last update and a lot has happened so I thought it was time to update the news area. So here goes:
1. Nov 2003 - LAN meet with the Sydney Hawks. Another excellent meet, much gameplay and discussions. Enjoyed by all.
2. 2004! - I know it's WAY late but Happy New Year to all.
3. Australia Day Long Weekend meet - Hosted by Mr Q (Sydney Hawks). An outstanding success with everyone gaining great things from the meet. For the Wildcats, a new member - Rincewind. Sorry for the lateness but welcome to the Sqn and I hope you enjoy your stay.

Of course a big thankyou to the Q family for opening their house to the rampaging hordes :) .... it was greatly appreciated.

4. The BIG news for not only the Wildcats but for Falcon drivers everywhere was the release of the new Super Pack version 4. This has been a long awaited thing and has definitely lived up to all the hype. Since it's release there has been a lot of testing conducted .... not only by the Wildcats .... but by all Falcon enthusiasts. As a result of this .... the Wildcats has now adopted Super Pack 4 (SP4) as its Sqn Standard. I have updated the "Sim Install" page to reflect this by adding an SP4 install procedures page. Please check it out and if there are any issues with it then let me know.

However .... due to a number of other Sqn's who are still running SP3 as their standard install (i.e. The Freebirds VFW) I am recommending that all Sqn members retain an SP3 install as well as running an SP4 install. This will ensure that we are capable of flying with all the main players in the online Falcon world. If you have any question regarding multiple installs, please get in touch and we can provide help in getting them setup.

Well I guess that will do for now .... see you at the next update.

Cougar - 69th Wildcats Commanding Officer

01 August 2003: July LAN - Wrap up.

Well another successful LAN has come and gone. Venue was the Pegasus residence and a big thanks to him and his family for hosting. The meet was a great success and also welcomed the return to flying of one of the Hawk's members (Raghead). It was also a chance to catch-up on the goings on of both Squadrons since the last meet. The current campaign was continued and all missions flown were completed successfully although with the current campaign approaching the end of Day 3 .... targets are becoming a little scarce so improvisation is the catch phrase and targets of opportunity are prosecuted with a healthy dose of competition amongst the pilots.

Once again thanks again to all who attended over the weekend and hope to see everyone at the next meet.

Cougar - 69th Wildcats Commanding Officer

14 June 2003: Forum added.

With a big thankyou to Q I have added a forum area to the site so that members can stay in touch with both what's going on and discussions on current topics and issues. Feel free to jump in and check it out.

10 June 2003: Queen's Birthday LAN - Wrap up.

Once again the Wildcats and Hawks got together for some excellent flying and general LAN play. A BIG thanks to Dragosani and his wonderful wife for hosting the event in their studio. There was a good attendance over the entire weekend and all pilots enjoyed the experience. The main focus of the flying was the continuation of the current online campaign and a number of successful missions were flown. The meet also marked the return to the Falcon ranks of a couple of Hawk pilots (Wizard and Flagpole) who have been busy with other things.

It was great to catch up with everyone .... and to also give Dragosani's studio a good workout as well. Thanks again to all who attended and I look forward to our next meet .... cheers.

01 June 2003: Queen's Birthday LAN.

With the rapid approach of the Queen's Birthday long weekend, the Wildcats and the Hawks are once again planning to come together for more Coop flying. Stay tuned for a wrap up of the meet on completion.

Cougar - 69th Wildcats Commanding Officer

28 April 2003: Another successful meet.

Following close on the heals of the Easter LAN, an impromptu get together was organised for the following ANZAC long weekend. This involved me travelling up to Sydney to pay a visit to some of the Hawks and to continue the campaign that was started the weekend prior. A big thanks to Q and our Sydney Wildcat Dragosani for letting me crash.

In another testament to SP3, we picked up where we left off the previous weekend and again, Falcon performed perfectly. Approximately 15 mission were flown in the continuing "Rolling Fire" campaign, with a variety of tasks completed. The major development in the campaign so far (and one that I could have personally done without) was the appearance of a number of SU-27 squadrons. These squadrons have had a major impact on the air war and .... as I can personally vouch for .... have taken the lions share of allied losses.

With the long weekend period now over .... The flying now moves to the online arena to continue the current campaign.

Cougar - 69th Wildcats Commanding Officer

24 April 2003: Welcome to our newest member - Bernie "Dragosani" Ernst.

With the 82nd members busy raising the next batch of pilots, a transfer has been approved for one of the Hawks to join the Wildcats. I guess the LAN meet over the Easter weekend re-kindled the flying bug and as a result I would like to give a big welcome to our newest member, Bernie "Dragosani" Ernst. I guess my plan of offering my spare HOTAS (F22 Pro, TQS and RCS combo) to him at the end of the weekend did the trick.

Welcome aboard Bernie.

22 April 2003: The Wildcats take to the Air!

The Squadron held its first LAN meeting, over the Easter long weekend, following its formation after the 2003 Avalon Airshow. The meet was held in conjunction with the 82nd Sydney Hawks and whilst it may have only been a small group (5 members), the meet was a resounding success with a good number of stable TE and Campaign missions flown. The meet kicked off on the Friday evening with a few basic training, dogfight and TE missions comprising various combinations and numbers to test our the network setup. Once we had confirmed that everyone was online, the serious flying commenced.

Mission details:
The focus of the meet was to get a much flying done as possible. So a "Rolling Fire" campaign was started up and all flights (with the exception of a couple of training missions that were flown during breaks to dust off various skills), were scheduled campaign missions.

Good experience was gained by all pilots using various loadouts (including the JDAM and JSOW weapons) and the inter-flight coordination worked well with all pilots getting turns to lead their respective flights. Missions on the whole were very successful with all taskings met and few if any crashes or CTD's encountered.

Once again .... Thanks to the 82nd Sydney Hawks (Pegasus, Q and Dragosani) and of course the other founding member of the Wildcats (Taipan) for turning up and making the meet a success.
