The 69th VFS has adopted some of the brevity codes currently in use around the world for Falcon4. This helps to make communications easier and to pass information between pilots faster. By utilising the brevity codes described on this page, if you do not fully understand a transmission, you might at least have an idea of what was asked for by your fellow pilots.

ABORT Directive to cease mission
AFFIRMATIVE Radio call meaning "Yes"
ANGELS Altitude of aircrat in thousand of feet. Angels 5 means that the aircraft is at 5,000ft.
ATTACK Directive to engage a ground target
BANDIT Confirmed enemy aircraft
BEARING Direction in degrees from your aircraft
BOGEY An unidentified aircraft
BREAK LEFT/RIGHT Directive to execute very hard turn left/right
BUDDY SPIKE Radio call indication aircraft is locked on by friendly radar
BULLSEYE An established reference point from which the position of an aircraft can be determined
CONFIRM Request to confirm. Reply is either affirmative or take corrective action
COPY Understood previous message
ENGAGE Directive to engage an enemy aircraft
FAST Target speed is estimated to be 600 knots ground speed or greater
FOX ONE A radio call from a friendly aircraft announcing that he is firing a radar-guided missile
FOX TWO A radio call from a friendly aircraft announcing that he is firing a IR missile
FOX THREE Radio call indicating launch of AMRAAM/Phoenix missile
HEADING Direction in degrees you have to steer to
HOT/COLD Aircraft is facing towards you (hot), or is turning away from you (cold)
MUSIC ON/OFF Electronic radar jamming on/off
NAKED No RWR indications. Opposite of term "spike"
NEGATIVE Radio Call meaning "No"
POSIT Request for position; response normally in Direction, Distance, Altitude
RADAR CONTACT You see the target on your radar
RAYGUN Radar lock-on to unknown aircraft. Request Buddy Spike/Naked reply
ROGER Radio call indicating you understood and will comply with a request
SAY Request for angels, heading, fuelstate, status, etc.
SLOW Target speed is estimated to be lower than 200 knots ground speed
SMOKE ON/OFF Directive to turn your smoke on/off
SPIKE RWR indication of threat is displayed. Add clock position, and type of threat if able
VIS ID Visual contact, you can see the target
WEAPONS FREE You are authorized to fire at will
WEAPONS HOLD You may arm your weapons, but not fire them
WEAPONS TIGHT No weapons may be selected/armed


This is by no means a complete list. But hopefully it will help to not only improve you skills, but also increase your enjoyment of the sim.
